PCBCOS Entry: Round 1
Entrants: Sandy Gano
Opponent: Riley Appleton (Dampho)
Theme song: Link (hit download)

Here we go, round 1 of the PCBC OS, and I got the opponent I wanted! Riley is such a cool character. And so are her Pokemon, of course. ^^

Anyway, because I like to be a little pretentious every now and then, I've decided to pick a theme song for my entry. It will (hopefully) reflect the mood I'm going for with this fight. My guess is it'll probably make more sense after I've finished the entire comic, though. Heheheh.

Flashy cover page/setting page/page 1 of 31 (which is short by my standards!). Enter the Magnet Train. I made it a huge double-decker, because I can.

Page 2: April 18th, 2010.
Yeah Sandy, go take that nap! It's not like anything bad will happen while you're out...

Page 3: April 19th, 2010.
Their mating dance involves a lot of impromptu stunting, such as looping, twisting and banking. And sometimes they separate briefly...

Page 4: April 19th, 2010.
Introducing my opponent rather early in my entry. Well, early compared to what I usually do. And it's actually just one of my opponent's Pokemon. Meet...

CINDER!!

Turns out we both have a male Charizard called Cinder in our team! They are also both holding Charcoal, and have extra large tailflames as a result of that. MAN, I FEEL ORIGINAL!! :D

Page 5: April 20th, 2010.
Oh look! THERE is my opponent's trainer OC, Riley!

I won't lie... I love this page...

Page 6: April 21st, 2010.
I love this page too...

Page 7: April 22nd, 2010.
That white thing, dear Cinder, is your love-baby. Congratulations! It's a boy!

..... I think...

This page took forever to make...

Page 8: April 23rd, 2010.
Well, I've got to at least give him points for persistence. That said... This time the boyfriend it watching... This might not end well.

I think this is where things are going to get confusing, so from now on I will call Sandy's Cinder "Cinder", and Riley's Cinder "Cinder-II".

By the way, Cinder-II might or might not be referring to the little encounter he's recently had with a certain Gardevoir...

Page 9: April 24th, 2010.
A Dragonite, two Charizards, a trainer, a Tyranitar and Jack... That's what's currently on that train car's roof. I guess they make really sturdy trains in the Pokemon world. HAH!

Toffee the Tyranitar's tail does not flop in the wind, because he's just awesome like that. Plus, he's made of stone...

Page 10: April 24th, 2010.
Ooohhh, snarly-zard! I guess enough is enough, even for him...

I seem to have forgotten how to draw Tyranitar's face... Sorry Toffee...

Time to introduce my ultimate plot device of doom:

There just happens to be a satellite hovering over the Magnet Train, which is programmed to track, register and document ongoing Pokemon battles. It then sends a signal to a database with information about ongoing tournaments, identifies the trainers, checks whether they are part of said tournaments, and if so turns their match into an official tournament battle...

*deep breath*

THEN is sends its signal to tv-stations, which then broadcast it to... everywhere, apparently... including to any monitors present within the Magnet Train itself (hey, that's the entertainment industry for ya). And it just so happens that Tarim, one of only two Pokemon in Sandy's team who can read, SEES the broadcast...

If that isn't the perfect plot device, I don't know what is... And it totally wasn't inspired by edface's PCBC round 1 entry... at all! :D

By the way, I was listening to the dramatic reading of the final chapters of "My Immortal" on YouTube while drawing today's pages and eating chips.

Big mistake... I was laughing so hard that I choked on half of them, and coughed up the rest all over my tablet. Yum!

Page 13: April 26th, 2010.
Hmmm, this page looked better in my head...

I hope I got Riley IC here. According to her bio, she takes matches very seriously. She's also very straight-forward about them; preferring to only use super-effective moves on her opponent.

Page 14: April 27th, 2010.
Riley is in fact thinking WAAAAYYY outside of her usual box...

Page 15: April 28th, 2010.
Come on, Cinder! You know Sandy isn't on the train roof with you. Why are you even confused? XD

Page 16: April 30th, 2010.
He took the glasses off, because he'd lose them up on top of that train. Tarim loves his glasses.

Page 17: April 30th, 2010.
I'm going a little overboard on the lineart lately. Proportions are off in the third panel, but I still like this page a lot.

So after listening to the dramatic reading of My Immortal last week, I decided to give the dramatic reading of Twilight a try... I only managed to sit it out till the end of chapter 2 before running back to My Immortal, crying tears of happiness.

Page 18: April 30th, 2010.
Oh look, a splash-page!!

Why is there a splash-page? So we can play spot-the-Magikarp, of course! Why else? :3

Page 19: May 1st, 2010.
Cinder-II might just have killed the Magnet Train...

Page 20: May 1st, 2010.
I guess the train lives to ride another day.

Disclaimer time: That Dragon Pulse kind of looped for no apparent reason (other than that I made a framing boo-boo), the proportions in the final panel are off, and... I have no idea how the emergency brakes on a Magnet Train work. They obviously won't make the screeching noises of a normal train, but the engines will probably make some noise. I imagine their braking distance is also shorter than that of a conventional train, but it'll still take a while before this sucker comes to a stand still in my entry. :D

Page 21: May 2nd, 2010.
It's just one thing after the other with these two...

Page 22: May 2nd, 2010.
Some things don't need sound effects... :)

Page 23: May 2nd, 2010.
Okay, I give... That train is still braking, which generates a forwards-oriented G-force (think: hanging in your seat belts type of deal), but the train IS still moving forwards (means backwards-oriented G-force; pushed down in your seat type of deal). I have no idea which way the hair/fur/clothes of the people and Pokemon on the train should be blowing right now... Backwards? Forwards? Just guessing here...

I hope the physics-people out there won't hate me too much for this... XD

Page 24: May 3rd, 2010.
Grand finale?

Page 25: May 3rd, 2010.
Dragonbaaaall Z!
Dragon dragon,
rock the dragon! Dragonbaaaaall Z!!
Dragon dragon, rock the dragon!
Come. Get. Me!

Hahah! That song is so bad... But I still blast it through my speakers at top volume every now and then!

I wish the actual Dragon Dance move looked like this. I was tempted to use a Rayquaza for that final panel, but then what would the move look like if a Rayquaza used it? Hmm...

Page 26: May 4th, 2010.
Some of you were probably wondering why there aren't any cameos in this entry. Well, now you know...

Page 27: May 4th, 2010.
The Magnet Train cheats death once again! I feel sorry for the driver, though.

Page 28: May 4th, 2010.
Mister Forgive and Forget. He'll be your best bud after just about any fight. :)

Page 29: May 5th, 2010.
Every cloud has a silver lining...

Page 30: May 5th, 2010.
I'm going to assume this was Tarim's idea... That cat is such a bad influence.

Page 31: May 5th, 2010.
The end! Do your best Dampho! I want us both to move on to round 2! :)
